The DMD/BDS program at the Afghan University of Medical Sciences (AUMS) is a five-year, full-time program that prepares students to become dentists.

The program is divided into two phases: 

  • Pre-clinical phase and the clinical phase. The pre-clinical phase covers the basic sciences of dentistry, such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and pharmacology.

  •  Clinical phase covers the practical aspects of dentistry, such as patient diagnosis, treatment planning, and restorative dentistry.

Students in the DMD/BDS program at AUMS receive a comprehensive education in all aspects of dentistry. They learn how to diagnose and treat a wide range of dental problems, and they are prepared to provide high-quality dental care to patients of all ages.

Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the national board examination for dentists in Afghanistan. Upon passing the examination, they are awarded the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).
